Player Ratings: Liverpool 2-2 Sevilla

Liverpool

Loris Karius – 6

Brought back in for Mignolet but again failed to give the crowd – or his defence – any confidence

Joe Gomez – 4

An underwhelming performance capped off with a late sending off

Joel Matip – 6

Not authoritative enough at the heart of the defence – although, at times, was Liverpool’s most attacking player

Dejan Lovren – 5

Looked shaky throughout but was not overly tested by Sevilla’s attack

Alberto Moreno – 7

One of Liverpool’s brighter players, seemed to thrive playing against his former club

Georginio Wijnaldum – 5

The game seemed to bypass him and consequently he contributed very little

Jordan Henderson – 6

Attempted to drive Liverpool forward although was prone to some wayward passing

Emre Can  6

Played a part in the mess that was Sevilla’s opening goal and looked in a daze throughout

Mohamed Salah – 8

Liverpool’s most potent threat – like at the weekend – caused the defence problems

Roberto Firmino – 6

Failed to really impress as Sevilla’s defence found him the easiest to mark but did get Liverpool’s first goal

Sadio Mane – 7

Involved in some exciting linkup play with Salah but failed to finish his promising runs with a goal

Sevilla

Sergio Rico – 7

Had fairly little to do but when necessary pulled off some very good reflex saves

Sergio Escudero – 7

Was made to work hard defensively against a pacey Salah

Simon Kjaer – 6

Sevilla’s new signing was tested against a dynamic front three and it was his deflection that gave Liverpool their second goal

Nico Pareja – 7

The Sevillan veteran dealt very well with Firmino – the type of defender that Liverpool could do with

Gabriel Mercado – 6

Was gifted a lot of space on the right side and was involved in a lot of Sevilla’s attacks

Steven N’Zonzi – 8

The former Blackburn midfielder exemplified why he is so highly thought of in Spain

Guido Pizarro – 6

Was not as effective as N’Zonzi in the central area but still outplayed his Liverpool counterparts

Joaquin Correa – 7

A promising player who showed off his flair and skill culminating in his fantastic finish to give Sevilla a share of the points

Ever Banega – 7

Having returned to Sevilla, after a difficult season with Internazionale,  he always provided central support to the three strikers

Jesus Navas – 6

A fairly muted performance by the former City winger but did link up well with Mercado at times

Wissam Ben Yedder – 7

Scorer of Sevilla’s opener and nuisance to Liverpool’s defence and midfield – although he didn’t have any other major goal-scoring opportunities apart from the goal

Is it Time for Panic Stations at Anfield?

As Liverpool fans, we don’t like to lose. Thankfully, it isn’t an experience we’ve had to endure that much in the past decade or so. From the point of Jürgen Klopp’s first full season in charge of the Reds, the most Premier League games that we’ve lost in a campaign is nine, which was the […]
