Liverpool on brink of signing Arsenal target Jean Michael Seri

With just two weeks of the transfer window remaining, clubs are entering panic mode and after a poor opening display at home to Watford, Jurgen Klopp may want to get the ball rolling having added just two new faces thus far.

Andrew Robertson joined for a fee of £10million from Hull City whilst former Chelsea boy Mohamed Salah joined from Roma for a deal worth £34million. Though, it’s likely Klopp wants to bring at least two more names. Anfield bosses are reportedly set to seal a deal for Arsenal target Jean Michael Seri. Seri currently plays his trade for Ligue One side Nice. The midfielder is said to be Klopp’s second reverse having finally gave up his pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita.

The Reds had a £66million bid rejected by the Bundesliga runners up. However, it’s possible that Klopp may remain patient and return again next summer when release clause totalling £50million is activated in his contract.

Though for now, Liverpool have registered their interest in Seri. The midfielder made 34 appearances for Nice last season, scoring seven goals and grabbing a further nine assists. Acquiring Seri is likely to be far easier than the Keita saga. Although the 26-year-old still has still years remaining on his contract with a release clause said to be near to the £37million mark, rumours suggest that Seri will arrive on Merseyside for just £20.5million. Though Klopp faces some tough competition to land his man.

Premier League rivals Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the midfielder, however, Arsene Wenger needs to free up some room at the Emirates before bringing in new faces. Everton, Spurs and Swansea have all been linked, as have Barcelona, however the Catalan giants have recently landed Paulinho and remain interested in Philippe Coutinho.

Having lost Neymar to PSG, Barca are keen to add to their fire power and the odds are in their favour as a move looks more and more likely. At 8/15 (or slightly higher if you take the best betting offers & bonuses from leading UK bookmakers) the Brazilian is favourite to set up home at the Nou Camp. Andy Townsend has urged the midfielder to join Liverpool and has called for Klopp to look to Diego Costa and Virgil van Dijk to strengthen his squad. Though both players are currently in messy situations with their respective clubs and there are many issues to be resolved before any transfers are completed.

A transfer for Seri would be even more important for Klopp should Coutinho depart. Nice are reluctant to let Seri go but have informed the player they will not reject a big-money move. Having beat Hoffenheim 2-1 in their Champions League play off, the prospect of playing in Europe, as well as the Premier League should appeal to the midfielder.

Liverpool’s Midfield Transfer Targets for the Summer 2025

Two summers ago, Liverpool were being heavily linked with a move for Jude Bellingham.
