Season in Numbers: Part Eight

This edition of Liverpool’s Season in Numbers is somewhat of a recap on our pre-season so far, comprising transfers, friendlies and everything else going on behind the scenes at the club!

7 – Nil to Liverpool U18s in Gerrard’s first game in charge

Steven Gerrard kicked off his career in management with a 7-0 victory over Burton Albion in a closed doors pre-season friendly in the middle of July.

10 – Years at the club for Lucas Leiva

The Brazilian midfielder – and Liverpool’s current longest serving player – has now moved on from the club and has signed for Serie A side Lazio in a deal worth £5m.

45 – Minutes taken for Mohamed Salah to get off the mark

It took new recruit Mohamed Salah just 45 minutes to find the back of the net on his Liverpool debut, finishing calmly after a set from Roberto Firmino in an exciting link up between the pair.

1 – Position for Steven Gerrard in Liverpool’s greatest Premier League goal competition

After six weeks of deliberations, fans voted Gerrard’s screamer against Middlesbrough as the club’s greatest ever Premier League goal, beating the likes of goals from Emre Can and Fernando Torres in the process.

70 – Percent possession for Liverpool in their first pre-season tie

Jurgen Klopp’s men were dominant once again against lower league opposition, a feat which the club mastered time and again in the last campaign, yet all too often still managed to come out on the receiving end of a disappointing result.

4 – Goals for the Reds in their first pre-season friendly

Liverpool kicked off their pre-season in style with a thumping 4-0 win over Tranmere Rovers, with goals courtesy of James Milner, Marko Grujic, Pedro Chirivella and Ben Woodburn.

9 – The newly assigned shirt number for forward Roberto Firmino

The Brazilian will undoubtedly have a more central role to play next season, and this has been cemented with his shirt swap from number 11 to number 9.

29 – Dominic Solanke’s shirt number for the coming season

The 19-year-old has already got his Liverpool career up and running in the pre-season friendlies and will turn out in the number 29 shirt as he hopes to get some game time in the upcoming campaign.

25 – Total shots for Liverpool in the 1-1 draw against Wigan

The Reds were dominant in the pre-season fixture against the League One outfit, yet only managed seven shots on target from the 25 they had, scoring just one goal. Composure is therefore certainly required in the final third as the Premier League season draws nearer.
