Liverpool look to strengthen defence, Neymar taps up Phil and Gini and Klopp up for awards

The Reds look to strengthen defence

Liverpool are reportedly exploring several ways in which to strengthen the back four. Recently they have been linked with a number of different centre backs. As reported yesterday, they are set to go head- to-head with Manchester United to try and secure the signature of Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez.

One name that keeps being mentioned is that of Virgil Van Dijk. The Dutchman looks set to leave Southampton in the summer, with both Liverpool and Chelsea prepared to enter a bidding war. Both teams have a serious interest in Van Dijk, who looks as though he will come with a price tag in the region of £50m.

Burnley man, Michael Keane has also garnered interest recently, and after his impressive England debut on Wednesday, Liverpool look set to rival Everton for the 24-year-old. The blue side of Merseyside have had an interest in Keane for a while, but the Reds have become increasingly attracted over the last couple of weeks. It appears as though the price could end up surpassing the £20m mark.

Coutinho “would totally fit in at Barcelona”

Barcelona winger Neymar, has expressed his admiration for Brazilian teammate Philippe Coutinho, and has stated that he believes he “is a player that would totally fit in Barcelona.” Coutinho has shone for both club and country over the last few seasons and although he recently signed a contract which should keep him at Liverpool until 2022, Neymar wants him at Barcelona. Both Javier Mascherano and Luis Suarez have made high profile transfers between the two clubs in recent times, so the Anfield will be hoping that a similar situation won’t arise. Neymar and Coutinho are currently with Roberto Firmino and the rest of the Brazil squad. The two Liverpool men put in top performances on Thursday and helped Brazil to a comfortable 4-1 win over Luis Suarez’s Uruguay.

Klopp and Wijnaldum up for awards

Liverpool duo Jürgen Klopp and Georgino Wijnaldum are shortlisted for the Premier League’s Manger of the Month and Player of the Month awards for March. The team have appeared to get their season slightly back on track after taking 10 points from a possible 12 during the month of March. Wijnaldum is up for his first award after putting in impressive performances and bagging himself two goals in the process. He will also be going up against Mamadou Sakho, the Liverpool man who is currently on loan at Crystal Palace. Fans can vote on the official premierlague.com website.
