Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-1 at The Emirates to knock us out of The Carling Cup tonight.
A goal by youngster Merida on 19mins was cancelled out by Emeliano Insua’s stunning volley on 26mins.
This left the sides level on half-time in an open and lively encounter.
Nicolas Bendtner scored a Torres-style goal on 50mins to give Arsenal the lead again and even though Liverpool came at them in waves, they could not find the breakthrough they deserved.
At least on a positive note, Alberto Aquilani made his full debut on 75mins and showed glimpses of his talent with some quality passing and a shot on goal.
So a good display by the Reds but a very disappointing outcome.
