Liverpool Season so far with Chris Hurst @_Chris_Hurst_

The Kop Table Interview

This week Peter sits down with Liverpool fan Chris Hurst.

PP: How would you sum up Liverpool`s season so far?

CH: Hello lads, straight into it this time, how would I sum up Liverpool’s season….very frustrating, I thought with CL and Klopp at the helm add to that the promise of money to spend I thought we really would have made a right go at it this year.  We all know what happened in the summer so no point going over that again, but we have to have trust in the manager and his staff that they know what’s best. It started very well, a draw away at Watford followed by 4 wins in league an CL but then a season defining moment so far for me was when Sadio Manè sees red and the game and our season got turned on it’s head.  We then win 1 of the following 6 games with some very lacklustre performances. Injuries haven’t helped I’ll admit that but hopefully, Coutinho, Manè & Lallana will be back soon and we will see the real LFC.

PP: Who has been the best performer for Liverpool in your opinion?

CH: I think I’ll have no arguments with anyone if I said Salah but I’m not one to go for the easy option. With the answer I give I know people won’t agree but given how he’s played in the past I’m going to go with Moreno, he hasn’t had it easy last few years but since Robertson came in we’ve seen a revitalised player, I can’t remember the last time I seen a player turn it round as good as he has to be honest. Even though our defence as whole has been suspect I still think he’s been excellent this season so I’ll go for my man Alberto (puts tin hat on)

PP: Which has been the best performance by Liverpool this season?

CH: Between 2 for me, the only time we’ve turned up and showed what we’re actually capable of which was Arsenal at home and Maribor away. I think given the opposition I’ll say the arsenal game, I was there with my mate Ian an we slaughtered them, we were first to every ball and it was a pleasure to watch, can’t wait to see that team turn up again soon which I’m sure they will.

PP: Which has been the worst Liverpool performance this season?

CH: Spurs away all day long. Yes the City score was greater but up until the red card we were all over them, but that spurs game was unreal, was like a bad dream, no one seemed up for it, miles off the pace, second to everything, making stupid school boy errors all over the park, I turned off in the end I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, games like these happen where nothing goes right, let’s hope we don’t see it again any time soon.

PP: Do you think Klopp will address the defensive problems by making signings in January?

CH: Man I hope so, he’s got to, no in fact he HAS to, there’s no way we can carry on the rest of the season playing the way we are at the back unless Jurgen knows we’re just gonna out score everyone haha, but serious at least 2 centre backs have to come in an id love to see a proper defensive midfielder also.

PP: What are your hopes and expectations for the rest of the season?

CH: I hope we win every one of our remaining games win the league the fa cup and the champions league…..I expect however something very different, the run from now till Christmas, on paper doesn’t look too bad does it, there’s only really arsenal away, and maybe stoke away because there just horrible where I think we’d struggle, the rest are all winnable, as I said, on paper, it just depends which Liverpool side turns up, hopefully we’ve put the spurs game well and truly behind us an we can go on a good run put some points on the board, then obviously strengthen we’re we need to in January, get them in ASAP an push on. It’s going to be tight at the top so I think top 4 again is a must anything else is a bonus for me even at such an early stage in the season.

PP: Who would you sell/buy in January to strengthen the squad?

CH: Tough question, depending what’s happen with Can if he’s still hasn’t signed a new deal he’d be first out the door if we could, rather take a fee now than lose him for free in the summer and for me he’s not a player we’d miss, but apart from that I don’t think the squads big enough to sell loads, maybe the some of the squad players the likes of Ings, Bogdan, Markovic possibly Origi could be shifted to free up wages and that but that’s about it I’d say. As for who’d I’d bring in, the obvious shout is VVD we all know that, possibly with his international team mate Stefan de Vrij would be brilliant.
