Reds roundup #1

Afternoon Bulletin

Liverpool’s talented full back Andy Robertson has been named in the Scotland squad set to face the Netherlands in an international friendly next week. The Scotsman, who has made just three appearances for Liverpool since signing from Hull City in the summer, has been named in a 24 man squad to face the Dutch. The fixture will take place on Thursday the 9th November at the Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen.

Moving on to transfer news, Liverpool have been linked with signing German and RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner. The 21-year-old forward has been heavily linked with a move to German rivals Bayern Munich, however Sporting Director at Leipzig Oliver Mintzlaff seemingly ruled out any possibility of a move to the current German champions when he said: “We had a pleasant lunch and dinner with FC Bayern, with Mr Rummenigge and Mr Hoeness. We talked about everything, but we did not talk about Timo Werner. Therefore there is no enquiry or offer.” Werner has started the Bundesliga positively as he has netted six goals in nine games after notching a well-respected 21 last season. Liverpool already have a deal set up to secure the services of RB Leipzig teammate Naby Keita. He will join the Reds next season, however, there have been talks of the two clubs pushing the deal forward. Jürgen Klopp clearly likes what he sees happening at RB Leipzig as he and Liverpool have also been linked with a move for their Swedish playmaker Emil Forsberg who made an impression on the German manager with his performances last season.

Klopp is also looking to strengthen their defence after the recent criticism he received from the media and the fact that his Liverpool side have conceded 16 goals in just 10 premier league games. It is rumoured that Liverpool are looking at Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri who is reportedly top of Klopp’s wish list. Klopp is looking to strengthen his defence in an attempt to regain a top-four finish. Reports in Italy suggest that the Brazilian would have been a target in the summer, had he not sustained a torn ACL in May. It has been reported that Klopp will return with a €25m (£22m) bid for the defender, the 23-year-old will also be offered a four-and-a-half year deal.

Former Liverpool defender Javier Mascherano is also in the news, as he prepares to embark upon a new footballing journey. Reportedly the Argentine defender, currently playing for FC Barcelona in Spain, wishes to join an MLS team at the conclusion of the current season. “Mascherano has told Barcelona he does not want to go to China, Qatar or other exotic locations to earn a super-wage,” “His desire is clear. If a franchise in the USA meets his demands, Barcelona will let him go. In the opposite case, he will continue at the club. Open doors and absolute willingness to comply with a player who has given his all to the club.” Could these reports suggest that another well-known name could be joining the American soccer scene? Once again regenerating fan interest after the likes of Thierry Henry and Steven Gerrard leaving the league.
