His asking price is now thought to be £15 million which is out of Brendan Rodger's price-range.
However, the new Liverpool Manager is hoping to off-load Charlie Adam, Jay Spearing and Stuart Downing to raise funds to buy the striker from Chelsea.
Sturridge, despite his obvious talent, has consistantly failed to make it into Chelsea's side and he may be itching for a move to Anfield in order to get more game-time and goals.
Ironically, when Damien Comolli was selling Torres to Chelsea, Sturridge was offered to Liverpool for £10 million in the deal.
Chelsea were prepared to pay £40 million plus young Sturridge to capture Torres, but our former Director of Football made a fatal error in not accepting the deal.
Getting £50 million for Torres was great but we squandered the money on poor old Andy Carroll instead.
No wonder he was sacked, lets hope that we manage to sign the lad before Friday as we need a natural goal-scorer.

Dalgish was really too quick to buy. The $35M for Carroll (maybe I am prejudiced against left footed forwards) was insane. Most backs are right footed, when a left footed forward is up against a right footed back, it's a lost challenge.
ReplyDeleteSturidge is not good enough for liverpool, too selfish and not flexible enough.
ReplyDeleteKing Kenny & Comolli squandered money on average players Anon.
ReplyDeleteNow Rodgers has to wheel & deal to get some quality players in.
All I can say is that if we sell Carroll we will regret it. The reason he was so potent at Newcastle was because he was played consistently and not intermittently the way he is being handled at LFC. The team that buys him and makes him their star will benefit tremendously and yet again we will be left wondering why players excel once they leave liverpool. Theres a long list of such players. In the 2011/2012 season in all competitions he Started 29 times and came on as a Substitute 18 times. He scored 9 goals. I think if he had started those 29 games he probably would have scored just as much excluding the Substitute appearances. All he needs is a good run of games. Also its easy to say that Dalglish was too eager to buy but maybe you cannot remember the situation we were in after Torres's sudden departure.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing. Sturridge was not a proven entity at that point because he hadn't been on loan to Bolton yet when the deal was offered so no-one knew how prolific he was. Chelsea would never have offered him for 10 million.
ReplyDeleteEither way, if we do buy Sturridge, we will again be losing out, moneywise.
ReplyDeleteI think we should keep Carroll but I think its called 'Collateral Damage' to get rid of him, shame.
I was wondering the same. Why we did not take Sturridge as part of Torres deal. Would love him at the club. Don't care what others say. This kid can finish. Something that we are seriously lacking at the moment.
ReplyDeleteLets move on Adam, Henderson and Downing and buy a class striker in Sturridge, nite lads.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your sentiment on "Collateral Damage".Imagine how much worse we would feel if after we offload Carroll for a bargain price, he goes on to play well for another team and suddenly his valuation goes up again. Then we will really feel like idiots because we would have lost twice. Ofcourse all of this is improbable but I dare say not impossible. I think we should give him a chance to increase his current valuation and at the same time repay LFC through performance. Rather than taking such a huge loss with a player who appeared to be returning to his best.
ReplyDeleteWe would be mad to sell Carroll our loss will be somebody's gain. Sturraige would be a good addition but we have a hungry young 18 your old stricker in Adam Morgan. Give him mins he is our new Robbie Fowler or Rush and he is free. he know's were the goal is
ReplyDeleteTo sign Carroll For 35mil and on a chance to sign Sturridge For 10mil shows how out of touch Dalglish was and how bad Comolli was at doing his job. It seems Comolli was afraid to say no to Dalglish. No wonder they both got sacked.
ReplyDeleteI've said it before and I'll say it again; it would be a shame if Carroll were to be shown the door: he has a lot to offer. Better that the three stooges - Adam, Downing and Henderson - got a hand with their gear out the front-door at Anfield. Morgan looks good; Sturridge might come in useful as well. Maybe Luis Suárez could be put out on the wing and a rotation system involving Sturridge, Carroll and Morgan could be used. Suárez will always score goals; use him in the same role as the now-departed Dirk Kuyt - Luisito is a good 5-6 years younger than Kuyt, to boot. I'm more worried about the defence at the moment, to be fair..
ReplyDeleteHi Pat,
ReplyDeleteI agree,I think young Adam Morgan is a natural goal-scorer, I would love to see him in the team in the Europa League and the domestic Cup competitions.
Then a few league matches to see if he is ready for the Premier League.
I would agree with that, John; break Adam Morgan in via the UEFA Cup/Europa League and the cup competitions, with a couple of substitute appearances in the league thrown in. It might be a tad too early to throw him in right from the start in league matches, though.
ReplyDeleteYes I think so Pat, but the boy has the potential to be as good as any modern-day Liverpool forward aka Fowler, Owen or even Rushie, I hope.
ReplyDeletei don't think we need sturridge. just don't think sturridge will suits with LFC. What about scot sinclair or wallcott ?
