OFFICIAL SWANSEA STATEMENT: RODGERS HAS LEFT SWANSEA

Brendan Rodgers next Liverpool ManagerSwansea's Brendan Rodgers will certainly now be the next Liverpool Manager.
Huw Jenkins, the Swansea chairman, said on the club's official website: "I was contacted by Liverpool last night and they expressed their wish to speak to Brendan regarding their vacancy.
I had a discussion with Brendan to talk about their interest and his views on whether he wanted to speak to Liverpool."
He expressed his wish with me to do that and he has spoken to Liverpool today.
Following on from discussions with Liverpool's owners, Brendan has informed us that he would like to take up their offer to manage Liverpool."
At the moment we are currently in talks with the owners to agree compensation.
We are trying to finalise that within the next 24 hours.
Personal terms are being agreed and Liverpool are prepared to pay a compensation fee of around £5m to release Rodgers from the three-and-a-half year contract he signed at the Liberty Stadium in January.
It is still not clear what kind of managerial structure will be put in place at Anfield.
Louis van Gaal has been approached over becoming the club's new sporting director but, with the Dutchman wanting sizeable high level of control at Liverpool, that idea may be diluted as part of the agreement with Rodgers.
"Although we are very disappointed to lose such a talented, young British manager, we didn't wish to stand in his way," Jenkins added.
As always at Swansea City, we want people working here who are fully committed to the task ahead.
We wish Brendan every success in the future."We will always remain good friends and we thank him for all his hard work and passion at this football club over the past two years.
We shall now refocus and quickly start the process of finding his replacement to continue the great work Brendan has carried out at this football club."

  1. And the next chapter of a new era begins. I can't stress enough how we must back our team with the fullest support possible. The decision has apparently been made, sniping about it will not help anything. To all those who threatened to turn their tickets in please do so, I'm sure there are many more who would be happy to take them. Support your new manager as you would support any Anfield gaffer.

  2. Yes Anon, now that he will be our new Manager, we all have to get behind him and give him a fair chance at the job.

  4. We will support BR,we just had hoped the owners would have at least opened their net wider and also,at least, interviewed RB. We talking about a man who made us feared across Europe and in the EPL,made us dream, made us fans count for something cos at anfield we were the "12th man"! What makes it a bitter pill is the fact that Rick Parry and G&H are apparently being consulted(its wrong no matter what capacity). It make this position a difficult one for BR, in the sense that he'll have to show signs of the perfect end picture from very early on to make the majority of fans put the RB situation behind them. Good luck BR, ultimately, all we want is the best for LFC, as long as you are the gaffer you have my support.

Not my first choice, but he has done impressive things with Swansea, so who knows? To John and the first couple of anonymous peoples, I concur wholeheartedly.

To the third anonymous, forget about Benítez. The whole "Rafa for Anfield" thing reminds me of when Roy Hodgson took over and people were calling for Kenny Dalglish to become manager. Kenny became Roy's "tonton macoute." Now that Brendan Rogers has become Liverpool manager, will Rafa become his bogeyman?

You're right about Parry, Gillett and Hicks; what in the name of Bruce Grobbelaar's left glove has this got to do with them? Upwards and onwards? Who knows, but the manager, as always, deserves our full support (even if the owners might not..).

  6. Hi Pat & anonymous.
Rick Parry and Hicks and Gillett consulted?
Maybe Parry, but I can't imagine H&G would be on speaking terms with John Henry after the club was sold against their wishes and they have a lawsuit running against Martin Broughton and Christian Purslow.

It was news to me that any, or all three, of the gentlemen were consulted, John; Parry is, as far as I know, no longer at Liverpool (or am I mistaken??) so he should really play no part in what now goes on at the club.

  8. Hi Pat, it was news to me too, I doubt there is any truth in it, but we have our new manager now and I am once again filled with optimism, yet again, twenty years in a row.
