NEWCASTLE UP TO THIRD AFTER WIN AT STOKE

One of our rivals for fourth spot this season,  Newcastle United, strangely enough, have climbed above Chelsea into 3rd in the Premier League.

Alan Pardew's side are unbeaten in the League thus far and are now only one point behind Man Utd,
strange goings on in the League, surely this can't last and they will run out of puff and players as the season goes on.

Demba Ba, a signing from West Ham scored all three goals one from the penalty spot to earn the win, despite a Jon Walters penalty for Stoke in the second-half.

The only way we can get above this team is to beat them ourselves and we play them at Anfield on Friday, 30th of December.

By then we should see the weaker teams in their usual mid-table places, but you never know, Newcastle under Pardew are proving very difficult to beat, so its all to play for.

Best of luck with your ankle infection Stevie G.

LIVERPOOL REBUILDING SHOWING SIGNS OF SUCCESS

Things are beginning to take shape at Liverpool following the 2-0 victory at the Hawthorn's on Saturday.

Andy Carroll had his best game for the Reds since joining in January for a crazy fee.
He looks to finally have coped with the huge expectations and demands placed on him and has begun to play his natural game as a versatile forward who can create chances for his strike-partner Luiz Suarez, hold the ball up for his team-mates and, crucially, score a goal.
His all-round performance was key to Liverpool seeing off Roy Hodgson's limited side.

Jordan Henderson too is improving, he is beginning to link-up better with his team-mates and he is growing into the role on the right-side of midfield.

Charlie Adam did well to calmly put away the 9th minute penalty, even though he has yet to produce a commanding midfield display for a full game, he is improving and is always a threat from set-plays and running at defenders.

After the stunning 4-0 defeat against Spurs and the unlucky League loss to Stoke 1-0, we are now on a seven match unbeaten run in all competitions, which is a pretty decent record.

We lie in 6th place behind Spurs who won today.Though we are only 1 point behind Chelsea in fourth.

Its early days yet in the Premiership with only ten games played, so alot can change between now and the end of the season.

Expect a strong challenge from Kenny Dalglish's Liverpool from now on.

An Ankle Infection: Does Steve Gerrard have a swollen ankle or is it an abscess?
I have had surgery on an abscess and it cleared up in four days, so maybe our Captain will be back in the team sooner rather than later.

Next up: Swansea at home

SUAREZ DOUBLE DOWNS STOKE

Liverpool are through to the League Cup Quarter-Finals after beating Stoke 2-1 at the Britannia Stadium.

Kenny Dalglish has Luiz Suarez to thank after his side went in one-nil down at half time due to a Kenwyne Jones headed goal on 44 mins.
This was despite Liverpool having shots saved by Sorensen from Andy Carroll, Martin Kelly and Suarez who was a problem for Stoke all evening.

However, Liverpool came out in the second half all guns blazing and Suarez cut in from the left to fire an unstoppable shot past the Stoke keeper.
The game really was a classic Cup-tie with lots of tough tackling and not much in the way of neat, creative play, it looked to be heading for extra-time until Suarez stepped up again on 85 mins to score with a great header from a Jordan Henderson cross.

There were 4 minutes of injury-time but Liverpool, without Adam, Gerrard, Enrique or Downing managed to hold out for a great win in the Potteries, the first in ten years.

Man of the Match: Luiz Suarez

NICE TO SEE UTD GET HAMMERED

Nice to see Man Utd getting hammered at home by mega-rich Man City today.
A 6-1 defeat is as bad as it gets for Ferguson's mob.

While it has belatedly softened the abject disappointment of the 1-1 draw with Norwich City, it does not disguise the glaringly obvious decencies in our team.

Yes we look great going forward, good passing and movement, good inter-play etc..

We are over-reliant on Suarez, as we once were with Torres, Suarez was great against Norwich, terrorising their defence with turned ball and running at the keeper only to see his shots either saved by Norwich keeper, Ruddy or hitting the post or crossbar.

But we are not playing as a team going forward, we look bereft of ideas unless we feed the ball through to Suarez, who now seems to have the World on his shoulders every time he takes on the ball.

We are not solid at the back, Martin Skrtel gives me the Heebee jeebee's going forward, he lacks passing and scoring ability and its only a matter of time before Agger replaces him for a while in the team.

Kenny Dalglish had this to say after the Norwich draw: "We have got to be careful that we don't into the habit of saying we are playing well, but we got a point. We have got to start finishing teams off."

Come the January window we need a quality forward to help Suarez and an experienced centre back to stop us leaking goals every game, get to work David Comolli, otherwise its 6th or 7th again this Season.

LIVERPOOL LACK THE KILLER INSTINCT

How did we draw that game?
Twenty-one shots on goal, ten on target and  yet we could only draw 1-1 against Norwich at Anfield.
Suarez was dynamite again with five shots on goal, none of them going in.

We totally dominated that match from almost start to finish yet we only drew, another two points dropped after the draw against Utd last Saturday, another game we should have won.

The January window is fast approaching, Kenny has said there is money to spend so lets go and buy a quality finisher, lets not leave it all to Suarez, he needs assistance upfront now, that much is obvious, Commoli find us a marksman please.

TORRES & MEIRELES SCORE....FOR CHELSEA!

So the last of the Mohicans in Raul Meireles scores and sets up Torres to send Chelski on their way to a 5-0 win against Belgian side Genk (Ever been to Belgium? Its quaint and compact).
I was surprised when Meireles left Liverpool and I think we have missed his guile and craft and his goal-scoring abilities, yet it was strange to see him linking up with another former Red in Torres in Chelsea colours to secure an emphatic win for Abramovic 5-0.

I put the blame squarely on Christian Purslow's shoulder's.
He alone decided to appoint Roy Hodgson as Liverpool Manager ahead of Kenny Dalglish last season.

If Kenny had been accepted as Manager at that time then we would be in a much better place right now.
Still, its onwards and upwards with Dalglish finally back in charge at Liverpool

SUAREZ IN HOT WATER WITH FA AFTER DRAW WITH UTD

After this afternoon's draw with Utd at Anfield, it has emerged tonight that Louis Suarez is likely to face an FA inquiry into his altercations with Patrice Evra.

The Football Association says it will look further into an "incident" alleged to have occurred in Liverpool's draw with Manchester United on Saturday.

"Referee Andre Marriner was made aware of an allegation at the end of the fixture and has subsequently reported this to the FA," a statement read.
"The FA will now begin making enquiries into the matter."

It has been reported that Suarez hurled racial abuse at Evra during the course of the game following a number of hefty tackles by the Mancs player, Evra promptly told referee, André Marriner and the matter was included in his match report.

Luis Suarez has categoricaly denied the claims by the Utd player.

Thats all we need, Suarez suspended for two or three games after the frustration of conceding a late equalising goal in a game which we totally dominated and should have won.

Lets hope that good sense prevails and that nothing more is said on this matter, if Suarez does get suspended it will see Bellamy get a run in the team.

JOHN FLANAGAN AMONG FOUR LIVERPOOL PLAYERS IN ENGLAND U-21'S SQUAD

Liverpool's John Flanagan has been promoted to England's Under 21's squad by Manager Stuart Pearce.
He joins fellow Liverpool players Jordan Henderson, Martin Kelly and Johnjo Shelvey who scored a cracking goal for his loan club, Blackpool at the weekend.
England play Iceland on Thursday evening followed by a game versus Norway on Monday, 11th Oct.

Good to see so many Liverpool youngsters playing for England Under-21's, it bodes well for the future.
