A BREATH OF FRESH AYRE

Ian Ayre, Liverpool's MD, is an honest and refreshing man with a good commercial pedigree and thus far has proved himself to be the ideal man at the helm of Liverpool FC,thank God that clown Purslow is long gone.
In a candid interview today he discussed the proposed new stadium, the former disasterous previous owners Hicks and Gillette and he praised current custodians FSG.
On the stadium he said:
"If we'd started building in 2007 we'd be in it by now. It could have been brilliant but we've probably set ourselves back several years," he said.
The new owners of Liverpool, Fenway Sports Group, are currently considering whether to build a 60,000 to 72,000 all-seater stadium in Stanley Park or to redevelop Anfield.
Ayres said there could not be a greater difference between the previous regime and the current one.
"There was a great opportunity to maximise the value of the club and they [Hicks and Gillett] were right, it needed a new stadium and new people," Ayre told the Liverpool Daily Post's Business Magazine.
"What they got fundamentally wrong was using leveraged finance to run the business and try to develop the business. Without the significant increase in revenues God knows how much of a mess we would have been in.
"What we have now is people who really understand how to own, operate and run a sports business.
It is reassuring to hear these kind of views expressed by our Managing Director, we are moving in the right direction, at last.

IS MEIRLES LEAVING BECAUSE AQUILANI IS RETURNING?

Is Raul Meirles being prepared to be sold by Liverpool FC to make way for Rafa Benitez's downfall in Alberto Aquilani.

Signed by Roy Hodgson last season in a £10.5 million deal, the Portugese International had an exceptional second-half of the season under Kenny Dalglish, scoring five great goals in 31 appearances for the Reds.
His work-rate, passing and link ups in midfield were brilliant, he had an excellant delivery from corners and free-kicks and he was central to our charge up the table in the season just past.
However, strong rumours in the press suggest that Liverpool are willing to sell Liverpool's Player of the Year to Juventus for £13 million.
I find this staggering, yes Liverpool have a clutter of midfielders right now, but surely selling one of our best players is strange to say the least.
The player himself is said to be deeply unhappy about the situation, having signed on a low temorary wage to see how he would adapt to the Premiership.
Well he has adapted admirably and ,in my view, he should be kept on at Anfield for the long-term.
Maybe, the problem is the return of Alberto Aquilani, the last signing/mistake of Rafa Benitez reign.
The Latino has been on loan at Juventus all season, but they don't want to sign him, no other clubs are interested in taking him, thus far, so Alberto looks to be heading back to Anfield.
And maybe that has forced Liverpool's hand a bit, they are trying to reduce the huge payroll and poor old Meireles looks to be the first casualty.
While they are at it , they should also look at selling Joe Cole, Milan Jovanovic, Christain Poulson as well.
Time to get rid of the squad players on £100,000 a week, and more.

WHY DO LIVERPOOL HAVE TO PAY MORE FOR DOWNING?

It has emerged tonight that Stewart Dowing aged 26, will be sold to Liverpool, if they fork-up £19 million sterling, yet Man Utd are getting his club-mate Ashley Young, a proven England International for £16 million, thats £3 million more for a very similiar player at the same club.
Makes you wonder what is going on. Have the rest of the league realised that Liverpool want to spend big this season?

Lets negotiate a deal for this classy winger and bring him to Anfield at a decent price, asap, otherwise find a winger from abroad for half the price.

LIVERPOOL MAY SIGN N'ZOGBIA FROM WIGAN

A strange and obscure website has come up with the claim that Liverpool have made a bid for Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia.
"Ladies & Gents, the identity of the mystery player that Liverpool Football Club have agreed personal terms with Charles N’Zogbia.

"A fee has been agreed with Wigan, personal terms have been agreed with the player’s representatives & the player will undergo a medical and sign a contract when he returns from holiday. The deal is not yet ‘official’ but subject to a medical being passed, N’Zogbia will be a Liverpool player.
Having failed to secure the signing of Sylvain Marveaux from Rennes, it is believed that Kenny Dalglish and Daniel Comolli wish to sign N'Zogbia as soon as possible in preparation for the new season.

SHOULD WE STILL SIGN MARVEAUX?

With news this evening that Rennes winger Sylain Marveaux has failed his medical at Anfield (as I feared).
What should we do?
Sign him, fix him up or forget him?
Personaly, I would take a gamble on the guy, he is on a free transfer and once-fit would be a great asset to our team.

MARVEAUX HAVING MEDICAL AT MELWOOD

Finally, Liverpool look set to sign French winger Sylvain Marveaux from French League 1 side, Rennes.

The deal has been on the cards since before last Christmas when the player visited Liverpoool and watched our defeat to Wolves, I think, under then Manager, Roy Hodson.
The player was accompanied at that time by Liverpool Director of Football, Daniel Comolli and it is believed that his interest in the winger has now been sanctioned by Kenny Dalglish and FSG.
Marveaux has been sidelined with a groin injury for much of the last season, but it is hoped that the 25 year old Frenchman will pass his medical at Anfield to add much-needed width on the flanks that Liverpool has been crying out for a long time now.

WHAT IS IT WITH THESE ARGENTINES?

So Liverpool's Maxi Rodriguez now wants to leave Liverpool and England to return home to his native Argentina at the age of 30.
Fair enough, you might say, the man scored two hat-tricks towards the end of Liverpool's 2010/2011 season as he approached something like his best form since signing for Rafa Benitez in 2009.
Yet, it is a trend amongst Argentine Internationals to wish to return to their homeland rather than take the chance to gain glory and silverware at the clubs who pay their wages.
Mascherano was an ungrateful son of a bitch and Tevez is even worse at Man City where he gets £120,000 a week, yet still decries his club, the weather, the schools..
Jeez boys, give me a rest, go home quickly and quietly.

LIVERPOOL STRIKERS BOTH SCORE IN HOLLAND V URAGUAY DRAW

Both Luis Suarez and Dirk Kuyt continued their impressive goal-scoring feats for Liverpool and their countries when they played against each other in a repeat of the 2010 World Cup semi-final.
Both Luis Suarez and Dirk Kuyt continued their impressive goal-scoring feats for Liverpool and their countries when they played against each other in a repeat of the 2010 World Cup semi-final.
All in all, it was an interesting, flowing game, which continued to excite the crowd during the second half. The only thing lacking were the goals. But that was remedied ten minutes ahead of playing time when Suárez tucked in a goal clearance from inside the box.

Dirk Kuijt scored the equaliser when he headed the ball into the Uruguayan goal in injury time forcing a decision through a penalty shootout. Uruguay did the better job, scoring 4 goals to the Netherlands three, clinching the Copa Ankel.
Good to see our two Liverpool forwards in goal-scoring form again, roll on the new season.
