POULSON & NGOG THE CULPRITS AS LIVERPOOL SCRAPE THROUGH

Liverpool escaped Europa League exit at Anfield as Dirk Kuyt finally found the net with only minutes to spare against Sparta Prague.
The approach and attitude from Liverpool was good, pass, move, go forward, attack the opposition at all times and the defence was comfortable with everything the Spartans had to throw them.
We looked fluid and lively from the off playing high-tempo attacking football without ever really threatening The Czech outfit.
Sloppy play in midfield by Christian Poulson where he simply wasn't up to the pace of the game, losing possession  several times, he played poorly and was replaqced by young Red Jay Spearing in the 2nd half.
But it was the poor performance of David Ngog that disturbed me most.
The young Frenchman looked clueless throughout the match, failing to control the ball everythime he received it, failing to link up with team-mates and taking the ball of Joe Cole when he looked certain to score.
A very average display by the young man.
However, Dirk Kuyt capped a hard-working performance by winning the match with a header on 83 mins to earn Liverpool a passage through to the last 16 of the Europa League.
It is clear that we need a quality defensive midefielder and a replacement for Poulsen and Ngog in the Summer if we want to progress as a club.

TORRES DRAWS A BLANK AGAIN FOR CHELSEA

Fernando Torres failed to score again for his new club Chelsea in the Champions League away to Copenhagen.
Chelsea won the game thanks to 2 goals from another former Red, Nicholas Anelka, who showed Torres how its done with two good strikes to give Chelski a valuable 2-0 away win in Denmark.
Torres looked lively enough, linking up well with his new team-mates and he even had a shot or two on goal.
If this continues, then we got a nice fee of £50 million for the lad.
I think Rafa Benitez was the only Manager who knew how to get the best out of him (he was only getting 15 goals a season at Athletico Madrid) and I think injuries have finished him as a top-class striker.
It was probably the best move for Liverpool all-round, lets hope Andy Carroll gets on the pitch asap as we continue our hunt for 4th and the Europa league.

TORRES SANG YNWA TO CHELSEA TEAM-MATES

It seems there is a tradition down at Stamford Bridge, when a new player joins the club, they have to sing a song in the dressing room.
Well it turns out that Fernando Torres picked our anthem and he sung it with such gusto that his new Chelsea team-mates joined in with him.
I don't know wether to applaud Torres or condemn him right now, but he obviously has some genuine feelings from his 3 years on Merseyside.
I am sure he will live to regret his decision to leave Liverpool after Chelsea crashed out of the Cup to Everton today.
He can start singing "Maybe its because I'm a Londoner.." now.

COURT ALLOWS HICKS TO SUE

The High Court in London has today allowed Tom Hicks, former owner of Liverpool FC, to sue for damages against the club.
However, he can only pursue his claim in Britain or within the EU.
It is believed that Hicks wants as much as £1 billion in damages as he previously claimed the sale to NESV was "an epic swindle".
However Liverpool have expressed their satisfaction with the court's decision. "Last week a further hearing took place as part of the ongoing litigation following the successful sale of the club in Oct 2010 to NESV,” read a statement released by the club.
"We are delighted that Mr Justice Floyd has granted the applications requested by Sir Martin Broughton, RBS and NESV and that the anti-suit injunction prohibiting the former owners from commencing legal actions against these parties outside the EU has been upheld and clarified.
"Sir Martin, RBS and NESV continue to maintain that there is no basis to challenge the propriety or validity of any actions by them or any of those involved on their behalf in the sale of the club.
"They will continue to take all steps necessary to defend vigorously any litigation threatened or commenced by the club's former owners."

HICKS IN FINAL APPEAL LOOKS LIKELY TO FAIL

Tom Hicks, the man I hate more than some of my former bosses,
has been in Court in London this week attempting to
overturn the International injunction against him and George Gillette pursuing damages against NESV, Martin Broughton, RBS Holdings and LFC.
The clearly deluded Texan believes that he was swindled out of Liverpool Football club by the £300 sale to John W Henry of Fenway Sports.
If, and its a big if, Hicks wins his case then he will sue Liverpool FC for $1 billion dollars, citing the club for underselling the asset, his own loss of £140 investment in the club and his belief that Liverpool FC were worth much ,much more than the £300 million hey were sold for back in those heady days of Summer.
The very idea of the mercenary Hicks winning this landmark case makes me shudder.
But the likelihood of it being thrown out of Court today makes me smile as the worst owners in the history will be finally laid to rest.

SOME OF ANDY CARROLL'S GOALS

As we wait patiently for the young Geordie to make his debut in a Liverpool shirt to bolster our attack,
here are a few of Andy Carroll's  goals in a Newcastle shirt.

Could have done with him against Wigan!

NOW REINA WANTS TO LEAVE

After the shock departure of Fernando Torres to Chelsea, the last member of Rafa Benitez' Spanish Rafalution, goalkeeper Pepe Reina, has openly declared his intention to look elsewhere in the hunt for silverware.
“Yes, well Van der Sar will hang up his gloves in the summer so of course they (United) are looking,” Reina told Spanish radio station Ondo Sera.

“I can’t do anything. I can’t say anything logically as I have a contract with Liverpool.”
“Of course one likes to fight for titles and be in a team that does that. We always fought to be in the Champions League and try to win the title. But unfortunately it hasn’t been the case in the last couple of years.”
Reina hinted that his future playing on Merseyside is reliant upon Liverpool finishing in the top four. The Reds sit six points shy of that spot, though their return to form has revived hopes they can sneak into a Champions League spot.
“I won’t lie, I want to play in the Champions League and challenge for titles,” he said.
Our fantastic keeper who has won the Golden Gloves several times in a Liverpool shirt is the latest player of the old guard to be looking to move away from Anfield, this would be a great shame were it to happen.
I hope that by the end of the season we will have finished in the top four and Reina can be convinced to stay.
If not, he can't be allowed join Utd

"A BIG STEP UP"....FOR LIVERPOOL

There was only one winner today at Stamford Bridge and it wan't Fernando Torres or Chelsea.
It was Liverpool who emerged victorious and triumphant in a tough and tense game: 1-0 with Raul Miereles getting the 2nd half winner.
Fernando Torres made his debut against his former team, six days after his £50 million to Chelsea.
Torres had one of his quieter days again, due to the tremendous defensive display by Kenny Dalglish's team, indeed, he was substituted on 65mins by Ancelloti, to round off a poor debut by the Spaniard.
Liverpool wanted this one and it showed with their marking, tackling and determined attitude all throughout the game.
When the final whistle went a huge cheer, bellowed from the Liverpool supporters behind Peter Czech's goal.
To beat Chelsea at the Bridge is a great achievement, but to do so when your former star striker has just joined them, makes it all the sweeter.
I wish Torres well now and I am sure he will score many goals for his new club.
Thank God we didnt let him score today!
We are now up to sixth in the table, 6 points away from the Champions League positions.
Its a remarkable improvement in Liverpool's fortunes since Kenny Dalglish took over and everyone now agrees that he should be given the job full time.

TRAITOR TORRES CHANGES HIS WEBSITE TOO

Fernando Torres has left all Liverpool fans with a feeling of bitterness and betrayal after his transfer to rivals Chelsea.
Comments from the Spaniard following his signing last night at Stamford Bridge have further angered the Anfield faithful, saying "I have moved up to a new level in Chelsea" and adding that he hopes to score against Liverpool on Sunday, saying that: "If I have the chance to play, I will do my best for Chelsea and hopefully I can score.
I felt from last summer that I need to do a step forward in my career and for my ambition as a footballer.
I am joining a team that is at the top level.
There is not another level after Chelsea."
What a scumbag.
He didn't take long to change his website either:

fernando9torres

Its gone from the Red of Liverpool to the Blue of Chelsea overnight.
So much for loyalty you scumbag, at least we got £50 million for you!
