WHERE DO WE PUT GERRARD AFTER THAT PERFORMANCE?

Well, after that fantastic display at Molineaux, where Kenny Dalglish got his first win of his new tenure, he now has a nice problem on his hands, who to leave out v Fulham and where does Steven Gerrard play?
It was a great team performance, full of attacking and good 'passing and movement'.
Everyone played well but Raul Miereles really caught the eye where he ran the midfield for Liverpool with his neat passing and good link-up play and he crowned his man of the display with a great volleyed goal.
Centre midfield is obviously his best position as he has turned in increasingly impressive outings in the heart of midfield for the Reds.
With Steven Gerrard due back from suspension on Wednesday, King Kenny has a dilema, even if its a good one, where does he play Miereles?
Usually, Gerrard is an automatic choice in the centre of midfield, but with the Portuguese doing so well there, what about playing Stevie G on the right where he played many times before under Rafa and for England.
I'm no football Manager but I would like to see a midfield of Maxi, Lucas, Miereles and Gerrard next Wednesday at Anfield.
Steven plays well out there whipping in great crosses for Fernando Torres and scoring plenty from cutting inside himself too.
Just a thought, great to get back to winning ways again though and I love our style of play under King Kenny.

  1. This is something i have thought about as well because mereiles is developing well in the centre of the park and the free roll he had today suits his style.
I reckon maybe gerrard could sit behind mereiles and have a more defensive midfield role and produce lofted passes upfront like what alonso did for us.

  2. You can't play Stevie behind Mereiles in a defensive role. The reason? He's too offensive minded, he wants to get forward. He has an unbelievable work rate to get forward, yet fails to show the same energy on defense. All you do is go back and watch prior film on him, he get's lazy and would rather stay up top waiting to create offensive chances. With this said you have to think about who LFC are gonna bring in during the Jan transfer window. If we move Stevie to the right then what about rumored Suarez? The thing is, Kenny has a formation in mind with Mereiles form and Stevie G's attack. Mereiles could prove fruitful and save us money in the market if he pushes stevie wide.

This is what I would run Torres with Suarez off set. Stevie G on the right and new winger on the left. Mereiles behind them and Lucas offset as holding midfielder. Then you can have your 4 back on the line.

Even better you could run 3 back in the EPL and push more firepower forward.

With Mereile's performance, it opens the formation door for Kenny.

  4. That's a fair point but haven't u thought that maybe gerrard has felt obliged to get forward in recent months cos he was the only midfielder getting goals for us.
If mereiles continues his run of form then i think gerrard would be happy to control the centre of the park and allow mereiles to push forward.
I agree with ur front two line up and a new left winger but then keep kuyt on the right (or any other middfielder at our disposal) and then have gerrard in a more holding midfield role and give mereiles a free roll to push into the box from the centre of midfield. Lucas should go cos although he's technically gifted when the balls on the floor most of the time in international fixtures(which is why he is great for brazil), he struggles with the playstyle of the EPL where the ball is in the air most of the time.

  5. playing gerrard on the right or playing him as a holding mid , both are gud choice, while I'll like to see both mereiles and gerrard being played side by side as attacking midfielders and get may be adams( if we get him in transfer) as holding mid.. we will have 5 attacking players as long as we can press the ball in opposition field , we're really gud!! we really need a CD,, frankly cara is not gud enough , nor is skertel or soto. if not saurez, why not fernando llorente?? he's gud, and really physical pluss fast!! kind of drogba style. I'd prefer him to saurez

  6. well
Gerrard can play any position he wants to
he is an all arround footballer
but i would like to see him on the wings
cuz hes probably one of the paciest players on the team
but he would also play well in the defensive midfield
he would play beautiful long passes from there
and to the person who said he is TOO offensive minded, he actually started out as a right back
and as you can see, the tackles really well and tracks back to help the defence alot
