PURSLOW MUST BUY REMY TO SIGNAL LIVERPOOL'S INTENT

Great news with the signing of Joe Cole on a free from Chelsea on a four deal with Liverpool, but it must be backed up with some hard csh-spending on strikers aswell.
The man in the news is Loric Remy, a talent from Nice in France.
He is a dynamic forward who gets around the pitch with ease and has publicly his interest in moving to Liverpool, despite the intests of West Ham, Spurs and Arsenal.
I would suggest their inintial offer of £10 million to £12 million, after all we are not a championship side with a small budget and Mr. Purslow, we need a credible alternative to an injury-prone Fernando Torres.
Also with West Ham upping their bid to £13 million, we need to act fast if we want to get hold of this striker.

  1. I'd say we need a credible striker, but not necessarily Remy, especially since his agent seems intent on stoking a bidding war for his services. Bryan Ruiz would be my first option in the 10 mil range.

  2. I agree with Chris. We have already picked up to front men in Cole and Jovanovic. Right now I am more interested in a left back more than Remy. Liverpool have made their intentions clear with hiring Hodgson. We don't need to show our intentions by spending money on whoever is in the news at the moment.

  3. Remy is at best a rising talent, 12 mill for him is a bit steep. We had bad experience with rising talent in the past (Ngog anyone)so no if he cause that much don't buy, let his agent play his game. By the way we are not exactly loaded with cash, so spend wisely.

  4. I'm not concerned that we get Remy, I'm more concerned that we have a manager who is not in control of which players we release or buy. Hodgson has already clearly stated that Purslow is in control of transfers which to me stinks. Yes a good deal done for Cole, but It was clear from Hodgson that Stevie, and Carra were instrumental in that.
I'm concerned that we have received £5.5million from the sale of Yossi, and there was supposed to be a £15million kitty available to a new manager, and all we have to show so far is 2 free transfers, taking into account signing on fees we should still have considerable funds available to get a left back, and a striker. Seems we are waiting for the sale of Masch to buy additional players.

    Paul Liverpool.

  5. Paul, I think you're right. But Balotelli has to be sold first before Inter can buy Mascherano. Once that happens, it will open things up a bit.

That said, I am of the opinion that we need to get whatever cash we can for Torres now and move on. Watching him in the WC, I don't think his body is ever going to be right. He's like a gazelle, and he's fragile. And when he's nicked, he's b*tchy on the pitch. Don't get me wrong - when the boy is healthy, he is one of the top 2 or 3 strikers in the world. But when he's not, and he can't play, he creates a gaping hole in our attack. I would rather we fill that hole with someone who can start on a consistent basis even if that player provides less talent than Torres. Depth and consistency win League titles - not flashy players that contribute occasionally.

  6. Hi Bunker,
some good points in your comment. I disagree with your point about Torres leaving a gaping big hole in our attack if he gets injured. It's not Torres's fault LFC don't have sufficient quality in attack to cover if he suffers injury; that responsibility lies with our ex manager who for what ever reason believed that central and defensive midfielders were the priority and not attack, let's hope that Hodgson is a beleiver that goals gained and not goals conceded win the team games, too many times LFC nicked a goal only to try and defend and concede crucial late goals last season.
I have faith in Hodgson's rebuilding and I don't believe for 1 moment that Joe Cole would be at Anfield if Benitez was still at the helm.
