GERRARD'S WOE'S TO WRECK TITLE CHARGE?

Dear oh dear! Just when things were going so well for us at Liverpool, this has to happen.
Top of the league at Christmas, three points clear of Chelsea and a brilliant 5-1 victory away to Newcastle, when disaster strikes.
Our Captain, our inspiration gets into a bar-room brawl, spends the night in jail and is up on a charge of assault.
The prospect of Steven Gerrard spending time in jail, just when we have our best chance in nineteen years of winning back the title is unthinkable.
I can only hope he gets off with community service and a fine or our title assault will have ended with his.

LIVERPOOL TROUNCE TOON TO STAY TOP

A six goal thriller at St. James's park with the reds cementing their place at the top of the tree.
Two from Steven Gerrard, a Huypia header, a Babel toe-poke and an Alonso penalty ensured top spot over the Christmas and New Year period.
Liverpool commanded the game throughout and it would have been a bigger winning margin but for the heroic's of Shay Given in Newcastle's goal.
The Irishman produced save after fine save to keep the scoreline respectable.
Despite resting in form Robbie Keane, Riera and Xabi alonso, the team looked composed in defence and enterprising in attack.
With Chelsea only drawing at Fulham, the reds are now three points clear at the top of the table.
Happy days.

Keane Double Wins It For Liverpool

Didn't we do well today.
I just saw the highlights this evening but we were passing Bolton off the park all the way through the game.
Corner after corner following flowing moves from wing to wing resulting in a three goal triumph against an in-form Bolton.
Truth was we made them look like relegation fodder, with two scintillating goals from Robbie Keane and a cheeky one from Riera, this was a consummate win from a top of the table side.

Next up a tricky trip to Newcastle on Sunday and here's hoping we can secure another valuable win to stay top of the table again, cheers

Robbie To Fire Us To Victory

Happy Christmas everyone!
So, its Bolton at Anfield tomorrow and I hope its three points in the bag to keep us on top.
To cut a long story short, 3-1 to the reds.
Gerrard to open the scoring, Keane to get the next and Torres to come on as a sub and get the third.

Liverpool sitting pretty at the top

All is not lost. After dropping two more points at home against Hull on saturday, Liverpool are still top of the tree following Chelski's draw with the hammers.
I wasnt too unhappy after the Hull game as I thought we played well in an entertaining game.
The Robbie Keane story rumbles on and I thought he should have come on as we looked to find the winner, however we must watch and wait on that one.
So its Arsenal up next sunday and I think we have good reason to be confident about winning there, by the way, get fit soon Torres.

Rip-roaring match at anfield

I couldnt take my eyes of this match, end to end stuff and all that.

Having gone two goals down inside twenty minutes, Liverpool roared back with two from Steven Gerrard to go in at half-time level.

Liverpool drew breath and went at Hull again, looking for that all-important winner.

It never came, despite the reds best efforts, Hull held on for a deserved point.

Although we dropped two points again at home, I was very happy with the attitude and performance of the team. Yes its a bit of a setback but i'm fairly happy with the overall display of the team.

Riera strike sets Liverpool on their way

Liverpool ran out easy winners against a poor dutch side in PSV.

In a poor first half, a Babel header restored parity after Eindhoven had taken the lead from a dubious corner.

Liverpool upped the tempo after the break looking much the sharper.

It was Riera who provided the lead with an explosive volley into the left-hand corner, the spainard had looked lively all match as did Robbie Keane who kept running and taking up good positions.

It was Keane who set up the third with a brilliant through-ball for Ngog to slot home the winner.

With Athlectico only drawing with Marseille, Liverpool win the group on 14 points.

PSV 1 Liverpool 1

PSV have scored from a corner that should never have been.

Liverpool look sluggish so far, no surprise there.
However Babel has just headed in an equaliser on the stroke of half-time.
Come on ye reds!

Jermaine Pennant frozen out at Liverpool

Jermaine Pennant has been left out of Rafa Benitez' squad for tomorrow nights match against PSV.
This must be the end for the englishman who has failed to establish himself at anfield.
He was the subject of a five million bid from Stoke last summer, but the winger was reluctant to leave at the time due to personal terms.

Now with the January transfer window approaching, Rafa must be keen to offload the lad as he doesnt seem to have any future at anfield.

Keane on the way out of anfield?

Rumous in todays papers suggest that Robbie Keane maybe set for a quick exit from anfield.
True, he has not been an instant success at his boyhood club, in fact, he has had a poor start to his Liverpool career scoring only two goals against West Brom in total in the league.
However, it seems much too soon to write him off in my opinion.
Having scored 163 goals in english league football, he undoubtably knows how to find the back of the net.
The fact that Torres has spent much of the season out injured has meant that the dream ticket has not had a chance to develop.
Instead Keane has had to lead the line on his own upfront, which is simply not his game.
You feel that a fit Torres and Keane partnership would unsettle most defences.
I for one hope he is given the time he needs to make an impact at this great club.

Liverpool win out

Thankfully Liverpool won today, now we can relax a bit, or at least, i can.

Valuable Liverpool away win

In the end, it was easy, three-one away to Blackburn and still top of the table.
However, it was an uninspiring performance for much of the game. Liverpool were not at their best today so it was satisfying to see them take their chances when they came.
Alonso planted the ball home from a Gerrard cross, Benayoun scored a great individual goal from a sublime Dirk Kuyt pass.
Blackburn did get one back from Santa Cruz to cause a few nervous moments, but Steven Gerrard scored the third after good work by sub Albert Rieira.
Thankfully, Liverpool won and stay on top of the league!

Dear oh dear, another disapointing nil nil draw and yet we are top of the league. We played alright but couldnt find the breakthrough goal we needed to win. I had a feeling we might struggle a bit without Torres again but we played well enough to have won the match. So its not to worry, we are not playing at our best but we are top of the league as i speak, cheers
